
Penang Junior Orchestra (PJO)
Penang Junior Orchestra (PJO) was born in year 2001. The membership of the orchestra is open to all school students under the age of sixteen, with the objective to provide an avenue and facilities for young musicians to develop performing skills and to gain exposure in orchestral music. At the same time, to cultivate and enhance discipline and patience in the young musicians through music. Also to promote music appreciation, as well as to foster closer friendship, mutual understanding and racial harmony among the young musicians.
Since its formation, PJO has performed annually to the delight and amazement of the public, noticing that most of its members range from the age of seven years old to sixteen. PJO members are well practised and trained to undertake the future tasks of their senior counterparts in PSO in years to come.
On 7th December 2011, PJO in collaboration with PSO members, had a once in a life-time opportunity to perform at the Royal Palace, Istana Besar Seri Menanti, in Negeri Sembilan for the whole family of His Royal Highness, Yamtuan Besar, Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and his honoured guests.
